There are many ways to attain knowledge: through reading books, watching the news and searching on google, but the best way is through travel.

Through travel we attain first hand experience by immersing ourselves in a new culture. This knowledge is superior to all others forms of knowledge because through travel we depend on ourselves to find the knowledge, driven by our own curiosity as oppposed to looking to others.

When I first traveled to Cuba I was awe struck by its beauty. I had seen nothing like it since I had visited Spain back in 2008. I was captivated by its European styled buildings and classic American cars. But what I was most intrigued by was the diversity of its people.

A bus tour through the city exposed us to a side of Cuba I would not have imagined existed. A tribe of people of both Spanish and African decent. Their music, dance and vibrant colors all resembled that of their African heritage. In my latin history courses in college, I had learned that Latin American countries had strong connection with Africa through slavery, however this was a completely different experience. First hand experience. It also exposed us to the poorer side of Cuba. The side of Cuba hidden away and forgotten.
